The area used to hold a plant nursery for Parks and Gardens which served both Brighton and Hove before unification. It then became a gardeners' depot for a number of years, but was always covered by a covenant that restricted it to park use only. Having successfully removed the covenant, the council then added the area to a list of places where schools could be built, with the inevitable result.
